WW1 Photograph Resources for Schools
The following photographs are taken from original prints and photographs kindly provided by John Smith of Docking Heritage Group. Some are very rare. They are only shown as draft quality, please select the ones you wish to have copies of, quoting the number in an email, and John will provide hard copy professional photographs for the cost of printing.
Many soldiers never returned. Around 9,000,000 were listed as missing presumed killed in action. Some families were bereft of even a body to grieve over, some were just told were their loved one was buried. British bereaved families received these "Widows Pennies". Our thanks to the Scrimshaw family for letting us display this image. Little is known about George Scrimshaw. If there are any military historians reading this who can tell them more please contact us via the web contact form or email.
